Practice Scales

Scale Practice uses falling notes to guide you through any — step by step, at your own pace, with Guided or Strict feedback.

Open Practice, then Scale Practice

Tap Practice in the bottom nav and select Scale Practice. You'll see the scale selection screen where you can choose a root and a type before starting a session.

Pick a root note and scale type

Use the root picker to set your starting , then choose a type — , , , , and more are available. The notes of the selected are shown on the keyboard below so you can preview them before you start.

Tip Start with in — it uses no sharps or flats ([pattern:WWHWWWH]) and is the clearest scale to see on the keyboard.

Configure your session

Before starting, set your pattern (Ascending, Descending, or Ascending + Descending), how many octaves to cover (1–4), and which octave to start from. Ascending + Descending is the default and gives you the full up-and-back run in a single session.

Choose Guided or Strict mode

Guided mode highlights the correct key in green after a wrong note, making it ideal when you're learning a new . Strict mode gives no hint — wrong notes flash red and you must find the right key yourself. Use Strict once you know the and want to test your recall.

Play along with falling notes

Notes fall toward the green hit line at the bottom of the screen. In Stepped mode (the default), each note freezes at the hit line until you play the correct key. The note overlay in the corner shows the expected name and its scale degree — for example, 'E4 — 3rd' — so you can track your position in the at a glance.

Tip Use the Speed control to slow the advance animation down while you're still building muscle memory. Increasing speed is more satisfying once the feels comfortable.

Use fingering to reinforce technique

Enable Hints in the session settings to overlay fingering guides on the keyboard. The hints show which finger to use for each in the , matching standard piano fingering. Turn Hints off once the fingering is memorised to practice without visual support.
