Reading Sheet Music is a new Learn track built on a live notation engine. Instead of one intimidating page of music, each chapter takes a single subject — the staff, rhythm, meter, accidentals, expression — and teaches it with staves you read, hear, and tap along to.

The track walks from the very first line of the staff all the way to the marks a real score throws at you. Each chapter is short and focused, so you build a reading habit instead of memorising a wall of symbols. Every lesson draws its own live staff — the same notation engine used across the app — so what you learn is exactly what you'll see everywhere else.
Staff Geography
The staff and G-clef, ledger lines, middle C across the treble and bass clefs, and the 8va / 8vb octave signs.
Reading Rhythm
Note values, rests, dotted notes, ties, triplets, and beaming — how long each note is held.
Time & Meter
What the two numbers mean, common meters, compound 6/8, odd meters, and pickup notes.

Three ways to practice
Reading isn't a spectator sport, so every chapter mixes three kinds of exercise. You read a staff and hear it, you pick the staff that matches a description, and you tap a rhythm back in time. It's the difference between recognising a symbol and actually reading it.
Read the staff
A worked example draws the notes on a live staff, calls out what matters, and plays it back so your eye and ear line up.
Pick the right staff
Multiple-choice questions show a few mini-staves — tap the one that matches, with instant right/try-again feedback.
Tap the rhythm
A count-in leads you in, then you tap the rhythm on a pad; on-time earns a green 'Nice rhythm!', off-time invites another try.
Symbols that actually render
Notation only teaches if the symbols are correct, so the whole track draws from a proper music font (Noto Music) instead of look-alike text. Clefs, rests, accidentals — including double-sharps and double-flats — dynamics, ornaments, segno and coda, pedal marks, glissando lines, and tuplet brackets all render as real, crisp glyphs. No tofu, no approximations.

In the Ornaments lesson, pressing Play doesn't just show the mark — it performs it. A trill trembles between the note and the one above it, a mordent flicks down and back, a turn curls around the note, and a grace note is crushed in just before the beat. Tap an ornament tag anywhere in a lesson and it auditions the same way, so the decoration finally sounds like what it looks like.
